Para-gliding in Interlaken

I would really like to do this. We sit on the terrace at our hotel and watch the sky full of the colorful para-gliders as they float their way down to Hoheweg. It looks awesome !! Who has done it, how was it and would you do it again????

Dianne,

Would I do it again - ABSOLUTELY! I took a tandem flight from Murren to Stechelberg (about 20-minutes long) and it was one of the best travel experiences I've ever had!

During the time I was there, flights were also departing from the Schilthorn. As that's at 10K feet, the flights were about an hour.

Prior to my flight, I asked the Pilot if he had a backup Parachute. He said it wasn't required but he did have one, so I wasn't too worried about the flight.

Reaching the edge of the cliff at Murren and suddenly looking 3000 feet straight down was incredible!

Happy travels!

They also do it from First - up above Grindlewald. I think it's probably a longer ride than the one from Murren, but it's the other side of the valley so a different view.

My son did a tandem paraglide from Murren, and like Ken, loved every second. He said it went so slowly, you just "glide" down, that it wasn't scary at all. But it was the thrill of his life! He said the absolute silence was a surprise, and the incredible beauty indescribable. I can think of no better place to paraglide than Murren or the Schilthorn, no place is more spectacular in my humble opinion. My son loved it so much he has been taking paragliding lessons here (few miles north of SF), it's a long process but well worth it to him. He's loving it. and as "thrill" sports go, paragliding is very safe. The "guide" my son went with in Murren had a camera on a pole and was able to take photo's of my son as they went down. Needless to say that was a great bonus and the photo's are breathtaking and amazing. You can explain the experience to friends, but a photo says it all. See if you can find a guide that can take photo's of you, you'll be so glad to have them when you get back home.

Anyone know the cost for a para-glide trip? I will be there in Sept and want to do it if weather is good.

I've been looking into it (I'm going to be in the area at the end of Sept.), and it appears to run between 150-200 euro depending on how high up your launch point is. Do a yahoo search for "Paragliding in Interlaken" and you'll get a bunch of companies that offer it. Unfortunately you have to be under 250lbs. to do it, and sadly I don't qualify:(

A few additional comments based on previous posts.

The trip will be charged in Swiss Francs rather than Euros. I'd have to check my records for the exact cost, but as I recall my 20-minute trip was perhaps SF$100?

Susan, Thanks for reminding me about the "Camera on the pole". My Pilot also had one of those and although it was a bit expensive I also opted for the photos. They were well worth the cost!

Cheers!

I didn't confuse Euros with Francs...I meant to say euros. When I browsed the websites, prices were quoted in Swiss francs and Euros. For some reason my brain remembered the euro prices-- so that's what I wrote. Next I will take the time quote the local prices.
