we will be driving through but not staying there, and doubt we will be there in time to see the run. Is it worth stopping there anyway? We are going from St. Jean-de-luz to Barcelona - should we drive through France or Spain?

Go through Spain. The fastest way through France will take at least two hours longer and is boring. The view of the mountains is better from France, but you have to get in close and really hug them - - that will take more than a day. The good part, besides Pamplona, about going through Spain is that you'll pass through Zaragoza - - it's darn near world-class and everybody neglects it.

We drove from St Jean-de-Luz to Barcelona with a stop in Pamplona. We wandered around, had lunch and then were on our way. It made for a long day but I feel the stop was worthwhile. This was in April and we parked at the bullring - don't know how easy your parking will be during the fiesta?
