Palma de Mallorca, Spain

Hi,
Looking for some of your impressions on Palma de Mallorca. We may be heading there in early spring. Is it worth a weekend stop? Thanks.

Not a big fan, but it's okay for a couple of days.

The bigger question is, what else might you do instead of this. Comparisons gives a better target for recommendations instead of a list of what's there or "I StayedThereOnce......andJustLoved.....

We only passed through on our way to Puerto Pollenca on the other side of the island. The city itself impressed me as another mediteranean city, not spectacular by any means. Mallorca in general suffers a bit from being a major package holiday destination, most people are whisked to their high rise hotel on the beach and pretty much stay there. Maybe pick up a copy of the Lonely Planet for the Balearic Islands or Mallorce(Majorca) and see if anything in town interests you, or find a smaller town or village on the coast to stay in. We did enjoy our stay in a little hotel on the beach in Puerto Pollenca, costs were very reasonable at the time, but given that you have to fly or ferry there, then get to someplace, I would not bother for a couple nights, needing 3 or 4 nights at least to justify the travel effort. If you will be in Mainland Spain, there is much the same to do on the Costa Del Sol.

Probably late for your purposes, but 10 years ago Palma and much of the island of Mallorca were very charming. Old Town Palma was good to walk, the castle on the hill was picturesque, the Tren de Soller was a wonderful trip on a wonderful old train. Then driving the small towns on the South of the island was also wonderful. It doesn't jump at you though, it was just really nice. I was looking to see if Rick had a show from there, since my girl and I are ending a cruise there in July and stopping a couple of days. But like Rick says, that's the wrong time of year to be there. Last time was in September - Just perfect!
