I just got back from a short visit to Germany including a stop in Cologne. Can someone explain the reason for the thousands of padlocks on the chain-link fence on the bridge going over the Rhine? It seems to be some kind of lovers shrine.
Russ, Here's an article that might explain it. www.thelocal.de/society/20100126-24827.html
I think many big cities have a bridge where this is popular. I know Paris, Munich, and Milan have these for sure. The one in Frankfurt is the Eisener Steg pedestrian bridge. It is fun watching people after they have set the lock and then they kiss and toss the key into the Main. Sweet and romantic.
