Has anyone had dinner on the paddlewheel ferry on Lake Lucerne? The idea sounds romantic but,on the other hand, I'm fearful that it might be another cheesy, overrated, floating tourist trap.
Thanks.

We haven't done it, but from what I have heard from others, it is very nice, especially the sunset cruises---not a "tourist trap" experience at all. There might, however, be some cheese included in the meal. It is Switzerland, after all.
Hi Kit,
When you look at a map of Lake Lucerne, you will note quite a number of small villages around the lake. Residents of these villages use the lake steamers to meet a major part of their daily transportation needs. The steamers are in wonderfully seaworthy condition; many are antiques - none are cheesy, overrated or tourist traps. Fares are quite reasonable. You can check them out yourself on the Internet (Google.com) where you should click on "images" and in the subject box type "Lake Lucerne ferries". You may take a very romantic cruise at low cost by catching a steamer at the Lucerne dock near Lucerne's train station. I suggest a trip to the village of Vitznau. At Vitznau, buy a ticket on the Vitznau-Rigi Bahn (clear weather permitting) ride up and see Switzerland from the top of Mount Rigi... quite a sight.
Gute Reise ! P.
Perry,
Thank you for the info. We will definitely check it out when we arrive in Lucerne.
Out of curiosity, has anyone eaten dinner on the ferry? Is it worth it?
