My fiance and I loved Kayersburg - you can actually hike there from Colmar. It is smaller town, but supposedly less tourtisty.

We just got back from that area. You can drive along the Wine Road to Colmar or just along the upper Wine Road. We drove to St. Oldie (not mentioned by Rick). It is a converted monastery on top of a mountain with great views when the sun is shining. We spent two nights at a great B&B in Itterswiller along the Wine Road. 25 euros per person with great breakfast.
