When I try to get a price and make a reservation for the overnight train from Granada to Barcelona in the middle of June RailEurope.com train schedule says no reservations are available with a Spain Railpass. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Probably they are sold out... most trains have only a limited number of places for those with eurail passes, so even if there are still seats there may be no more for eurail reservations. Try playing around with the options, such as seat vs. couchette, and see if that works. Althoguh from personal experience, you will not sleep much at all in a seat on that run.

After much research it seems that although you can reserve a seat on that train you can't reserve a couchette or compartment until you're in Spain.
We agree with your advice that it wouldn't be fun to sit up all night so we're going to wait til we get to Spain & see what's available then. We can always fly.
