Traveling by train from Paris to Berlin in June. Would like to break up the journey a bit. Any thoughts on nice place to spend the night and do a little sightseeing along the way? Thanks.
The most obvious choice is Koeln/Cologne. You will probably have to change trains there anyway, and it's got some famous art and architecture.
Koeln seems like a good choice. Not sure if we will spend the night or just stop for lunch and a brief look around. any suggestions on places to stay, eat, see? And then there is Bacharach, which requires a little more time and effort to get in and out of -- maybe too much. Any thoughts? Any other ideas regarding a place to see or stay en route to Berlin?
I've always liked Strasbourg on the French/German border. It has a very quaint city center. Stuttgart is good, if you'd like to visit the Mercedes car museum, but probably not a good place for an all-day stop. One of my favorite places around there is Rothenburg, but I don't know how difficult it might be to reach by train on that route, but worth it if it's not too difficult.
I would pick Koln, it is in route with Paris and Berlin and has a wonderful Catherdral.
There is a TGV, fast train, from Paris to Strasbourg. I like Strasbourg as well. Or you could take a tour of the winery areas near there. Oh, not sure if you can get from Strasbourg to Berlin easily by train. Bobbie
