I am leaving Tuesday for three weeks in Europe. One of my travel days is Bruges to Berlin, 8 hrs on the train. Can someone suggest a good place to stay along the way [on the train route] for one night? I would like to split that up a little

Large city or small town? From Bruges you are most likely going through Koln (Cologne) and I love that city. It is not quite 4 hours from Bruges and about 5 from Berlin.

Luxembourg is nice and a little different, about 3 hours from Brussels. But I don't know if it's on your route.
