Has anyone been to Tubingen? It looks nice and can easily be reached by 50-minute bus from Stuttgart Airport. Any other ideas/recommendations?
A few years ago, we spent the night in Herrenberg before flying out from STR. It's a 35 min ride by S-Bahn. There is a very rustic town wall ruins and the remains of a castle. The town square has a collection of Fachwerk buildings. We stayed at Pension Kirchgasse-1. Karin is gracious and speaks good English, if you need it. The price at Kirchgasse includes breakfast. (My wife wasn't feeling well when we were there, and Karin went out of her way to fix something my wife felt she could keep down.) Herrenberg is also between Tübingen and Stuttgart if you want to see both places.
How about staying 10 min from the airport at the Millenium hotel (SI Zentrum) which has theaters and restaurants. It's easily accessible to downtown Stuttgart. Or stay in downtown Stuttgart. Tubingen is a nice town, but there's more to see and do in downtown Stuttgart and there's more train connections. Another option is the of Stuttgart, Vaihingen. Stay at the Pullman Fontana hotel, right on the train line and a decent part of town.
