I would like to stay overnight in some castles. Mosel valley area, black forest, romantic road and Bavaria. any ideas?
Mosel: This is in a quiet place on the Mosel, near Alf and Bullay, both small but cute villages. It's a good area to hike or bike along the river, great views from the nearby Marienburg. I've hiked to the castle from Alf but not stayed there.

Auf Schoenburg in Oberwesel is exceptionally nice, but that's on the Rhine, not the Mosel.
We stayed in the Harburg Castle on the Romantic Road last month. It is our 2nd stay. We love it. The price is very good. It is working castle and not a fancy place. Pull it up. If you have trouble, let me know.
I second Schoenbourg Castle. My family and I stayed there in the summer of 2005 and it was wonderful.
Also, it includes an excellent champagne breakfast!
I booked our first castle stay on the www.rhinecastles.com that I listed above. However, after successfully booking and staying I realized that the sight adds a few euros on to the price in order to make a profit...I understand that.
However, with the age of the internet, you should be able to look at the rhinecastles.com page and find the castle where you want to stay. Then do an internet search to find the castle's personal webpage (hopefully they have one) and attempt to book it yourself. You can save a few euro that way.
We've personally stayed in Castle Colmberg just outside of Rothenberg Odt http://www.burg-colmberg.de/index.html
We've also stayed at Castle Veldenstein in eastern Germany very close to Nurnberg and the Czech Border http://www.burghotel-veldenstein.de/Home_main.htm
Castle Lauenstein was pretty but in a boring area http://www.burghotel-lauenstein.de/
Lastly Castle Weittenburg (boring) http://www.schloss-weitenburg.de/schloss/aktuelles.htm
Any suggestions for castles in Alsace?
Penny,
In July 2006, we stayed in the Schloss Hotel Hirschhorn, http://german-castles-road.com/schlosshotel-hirschhorn/. It was great, and the same price as the Best Western in Heidelberg... Room was lovely, and we had a wonderful dinner on the terrace overlooking the Neckar River and delicious breakfast the next morning. Enjoy your trip!
