I am flying into Amsterdam at 6:00 p.m. on a Sunday evening and flying back out on Monday morning at 8:30 a.m. Need advice on whether to get a hotel or sleep in the airport. Is there anything close to the airport to do in an evening? Thanks.
The train goes directly from the airport to the centre of Amsterdam. You can be there in 30 minutes. It would be a mistake to miss the chance to stay in Amsterdam. Right next to the station is an IBIS hotel -- cheap & cheerful -- just what you need for a quick visit.

Go into Amsterdam. I would also recommend staying at the IBIS next to Amsterdam train station. There are so many direct trains and the Ibis is steps away. RS recommends it in his guide book too. We stayed 1 night in May
( Sunday nite too) and took the boat ride which is across from the hotel. We got taking to a lady on the 10pm boat ride who was staying in a sleeping room near the airport and was very disappointed with her accommodations. You can go to Ibis.com and book sometimes cheaper with the no refund fare. We had a room in the new section built over the train tracks with no noise. You may request a city view since your time is so limited. Buffet breakfast was too costly for those who just drink coffee. They have a quick take away section in the lobby for that.
