Outdoor day trips in Spain.

We are looking for day trips and hikes in the great outdoors. Like canyons, cliffs, waterfalls, gorges, rugged shoreline, etc. Any suggestions? Probably needs to be somewhat near Madrid, Barcelona or Sevilla. Has anyone heard about or been to Pools (Los Pilones) or Gorge of Hell (Garganta del Infierno) in the Sierra de Tormantos? west of Madrid?

You could take a daytrip to Monserrat and do one of the hike, we did the Sant Jeroni one, pretty challenging, and breathtaking views.

I second Montserrat! It was one of the highlights of our trip.

Walking was more like hiking when we explored Ronda. We spent hours wandering around the gorge and surrounding area.

The Cerro de Hierro is a nice outdoorsy trek from Seville. Between the weird, martian landscape and the abandoned mining infrastructure, it will certainly give you a different perspective on the region. Also, the Sierra Norte de Huelva has some great hikes, with the added bonus of being able to stop in at any of the pig farms for a sample of Spain's (and the world's) best jamón serrano.

Thank you to Martine, Julie and Adynata. Sounds great. Now when you come to Seattle be sure to call for hikes, kayaks, mountains, coasts, and all good things outdoors!
