Opera in Paris

We are planning to be in Paris in September and want to try and go to the opera. We would like to feel that we are dressed appropriately. What is acceptable?

The Bastille does tend to be a bit more relaxed than does Opera Garnier, as daytime performances tend to be more informal than evening performances. Do you need a tux to attend an evening performance at the Opera Garnier...of course not, but a tie and sports jacket might make you feel a bit more comfortable to your surroundings. You should be able to slide by with the business casual look, though. Don't forget, both locations offer ballet performances as well. Just call it cultural double-dipping.
