What should I see in 3 days in Austria, beginning at Salsburg? Give me your best 3 day suggestions? So much to see and so little time...hard to search the web, time and travel by car is hard to judge.
Chris, I'd rent a car and do the following: Day 1: Cross the boarder into Germany, drive to Obersalzberg, visit the sight of hitler's mansion, maybe drive up the Kehlsteinhaus. In the afternoon I'd do Königssee, boat ride to St. Bartholomew. In the evening back to Salzburg, stroll the streets of old town and have dinner there.Day 2: Drive southwards, pass Bad Gastein (maybe have a coffee there) towards the Grossglockner, Austria's tallest mountain. You'll be driving a most spectacular Alpine street which winds higher and higher. Your goal is Franz-Josef's Höhe (peak) from where you'll have a breathtaking view of one of the most impressive parts of the alps incl. Mt. Grossglockner. Day 3: dropp off your car and do Salzburg, take a tour (of course this could also be day 1)
I'd include the lakes (Hallstadt or another). They are quite beautiful and with a car it's easy to tour around. Salzburg is a fun city to explore.
