Only 1 Day in Munich?

What to do in 24 hours? We like to hike, eat well and see the less tourist-y areas. Suggestions?

Take a "hike" through the Englishergarten stopping at the refreshment spots along the way? Seriously, this is a great place to take a memorable walk but I can't really think of a place to hike in Munich. With only 24 hours to spend I wouldn't suggest a train trip out of town to hike in the Alps or nearby lake either. With only 24 hours, I'd do the Englishergarten, stroll through the Vikteulenmarkt (badly misspelled I think) and just see the sites. Munich is a great, compact city.

I would go on a tour with Dark History Tours. Then you will get to see some of the less touristy spots with the most efficient use of your time. This tour company was created and is run by a professional archeologist, and you are sure to get the most fascinating stories about Munich, spanning a very long time period, from Stone Age, to Medieval to W2. http://www.dark-history.eu/

I would do the Frommer's walking tour #1 which ends at the Konigsplatz. Jump on the subway to the Main Train Station, pick up Tram #17 and do the Tram #17 beer garden tour as listed in "The Beer Drinker's Guide to Munich". Skip the Fasanerie and start with the Zur Schwaige (on the Nymphenburg grounds) then to the Hirschgarten (great place for lunch) then on to the Augustiner Keller. I did this exact day in May of last year and had a GREAT day!
