One week in Switzerland - base town suggestions wanted

hello, my wife and I are planning a one-week trek near Mt. Blanc next year. After the trek, we would like to spend one week in Switzerland relaxing, seeing sights, eating cheese, doing some light hiking, maybe finding a wellness spa for a day. Based on travel guides, we were thinking of Lucerne or Interlaken. It seemed like there was a lot of opportunities around either of these towns. Any suggestions for a town or area to set-up in for a week that would allow day trips or just hanging out in the town? We plan to not have a car. Thanks for your help!

My trip is planned for this Sept. so don't know from personal experience but from my research Lucerne is recommended as an ideal location to take day trips to other regions. I will be staying there for 3 days and will certainly do Mt. Pilatus which is a must see.

There is a book available from Visit Switzerland called something like "150 Water" something which outlines all sorts of water related activities, including a number of spas. Next week we will try the salt baths at Rheinfelden near Basel. That should be fun. Some of the best fancy spas are in the Enguidine Valley. (sp - I'm away) . I've visited the area and it is a great place for chilling and being spolied, although I haven't yet tried their spas. There's another famous one in the Rhone valley, that would be closer to Mont Blanc. After trekking in mountains for a week maybe you want something non-mountainous. If so, Luzern would be great and you could still get a mountain fix with Pilatus and Rigi. Don't forget Rigi.
