One December Night in Paris ...

Hi, thanks to everyone who helped me with my itinerary for my upcoming trip.

From Paris, we are continuing on to another country. On our way back, we'll have what amounts to a 23-hour layover in Paris (arrive CDG at 5:30pm on Dec 4, depart at 4:30pm on Dec 5).

For that final night, I'd like to be near the Champs-Elysees to see its holiday lights. Are the Rue Cler and Champs areas within walking distance of one another, or should we rule out Rue Cler if we don't want to train-hop on our last night?

Ideally, we'd stay somewhere that:

(a) Is near the Champs so we can see the holiday lights
(b) Is convenient to the RER since time will be tight

I'd stay on Ile Saint Louis--it's very near the St. Michel RER stop that will take you to and from CDG. You'll be near Notre Dame and very near the Pont Marie or Hotel de Ville Metro Stop that will take you to the Champs-Elysees.

Lucky you--Paris in December!

I completely agree with Sharon, Ile Saint Louis is the best neighborhood in Paris. I recommend Hotel de Lutece.

Jake: When you say you want to stay "somewhere near the Champs so you can see the lights", I take it you mean the lights on the Champs Elysées, not the Champs de Mars. If so, in spite of what Steve has told you, rue Cler is not a couple of blocks from where you want to be but it is a couple of blocks from the Champs de Mars. You'd best get a hotel on or near the Champs Elysées because it would be quite a hike from rue Cler across the river to there.

I would much rather be near the Eiffel Tower/Rue Cler area than over by Champ-Elyees. Much nicer at night to be able to go to ET - I think.

I agree with Sharon above, if you want to see the lights of Champs Elysee, you don't need to concern yourself with going to Rue Cler. Stay someplace more central to where you want to be.
