ONE DAY ROAD TRIP FROM LE HAVRE TO ROUEN AND BACK

WE ARE PLANNING TO RENT A CAR AT THE CRUISE SHIP DOCK IN LE HAVRE AND HEAD TO ROUEN AND SURROUNDING AREA FOR THE DAY. WE HAVE 12 HOURS. COULD YOU GIVE ME SOME INFORMATION RE: A SCENIC ROUTE TO TAKE AND SOME INTERESTING PLACES TO STOP ALONG THE WAY? I HAVE A GPS ON MY IPHONE AND SOME GOOD MAPS OF ROUEN THAT I'VE DOWNLOADED.
THANKS
LESLEY

The route is unsenic and stinks for things to see. Fortunately, it only takes about an hour. Use the freeways and get it over with. Turn off your iphone or you will be broke when you get home. You can buy a map or just follow the signs to Rouen as you come out of Le Havre. The first freeway you'll hit is the E05.

If you want some good scenery head south out of Rouen across the hills to Les Andelys and Chateau Gaillard (ruins, but the only castle Lionheart built in France). Fourty-five minutes each way would make it a bit of a long time in the car.

Sorry, no more ideas, but that a get-it-done-and-over-with hunk of road.

Hi, thanks for the information. I will definitely put Les Andelys and the chateaux on my list.
I have yet to use my iPhone in Europe, so am not sure about charges accrued for the use of the GPS. Could you please elaborate?
Thanks
Lesley

Actually I'm with Fido. I learned last year, too late, when I was in Italy, that I could have had my old phone's sim card replaced over there for five euros.
I will have to go to Fido and ask them how much they are going to ding me. They told me that I could use the internet while I'm away with no other charges than what I pay over here already.

Lesley...the only way you can use your iPhone over there is if it is "jailbroken." Otherwise, it remains locked on the Fido system and will not accept any other company's SIM card. And whoever at Fido told you that you would pay the same data rate as you do here at home was incorrect. Call Fido's customer service or check their website for international data and calling packages....quite expensive, but cheaper than doing it on a "roaming" basis.

Thanks Norm
I will check the Fido website and find out what it's going to cost me and then pay a visit to those fellows at Fido! I am not planning to use my iPhone to make calls, I just plan on emailing my family that I'm leaving behind! And send them some images as well.
And Just To Make Sure:
You think that renting a car from LeHavre for the day makes sense?
Cheers
