Hello!
We will be in Colmar, France, for two nights, and one full day this July. I am curious as to what to do that day. Do you have an suggestions for things to do, places to eat, etc. I am not familiar with the area, so really have no idea what there is to do around there. Thanks so much!!!!
Thanks Steve! I wasn't planning on getting Rick's France book because Colmar is our only stop in France on this trip. But thanks for the link! :)
The Unterlinden museum is wonderful and I can recommend the Palais des Anges for lunch.
I second the suggestion of the Unterlinden Musuem, and also agree with Rick that the Dominican Church is worthwhile.
I just got back from Colmar last week and all I can say is you will wish you had more time. If you want to stay in town, do the Unterlindin, just walk the town, take it all in. I did Rick's walking tour in his book and it was great. The churches are also great. Eguisheim is also a neat town nearby if you can get there. Rick has some great recommendations for food in his book. I had great meals at many places, the best being Chez Hansi. Have fun you lucky dog! Wish I was still there.
Thanks for the replies everyone!!! It sounds like we will just stay in Colmar, do the museums and the churches, etc. Thanks for all the info! This helpline has been amazing.....we leave tomorrow, and I know I couldn't have planned this trip without you all! :)
If it's a pretty day, be sure to spend enough time exploring the village & having lunch at a restaurant on the canal to enjoy the view. I agree that the Unterlinden museum is great. It's a beautiful town, and you won't have any trouble filling up a day.
Make sure to do Rick's walking tour. It's a great way to explore the town. Have fun!
I'll take a contrary view on the Unterlinden. It's a decent museum and probably worth a visit if you're in town, but I wouldn't go to Colmar just to see it. I found it fairly typical for a museum of its size, but nothing extraordinary.
If I had more time, I would have spent it exploring the nearby Vosges mountains. Most sources describe them as a "low mountain range" but they only looked low to me compared to the Alps. On the main route between Colmar and Epinal, the mountain pass takes you nearly to the summit of some of the highest peaks. Probably a breathtaking view on a clear day (cloudy the day I drove it, unfortunately...).
