Any advice on how to get Oktoberfest tickets? Are there any online agents that are reputable and trusted?

You only need tickets if you're more than 2-3 people and if you plan to arrive after 4:30pm and plan to go on Thu-Sat. From Sun thru Wed get into the tent no later than 4pm and you'll find seating just fine. The party will be equally as good as on weekends.

We will be there Thurs-Sat. If we go early (i.e. Noon-ish) can we expect to get a seat inside one of the tents and then stay there all day and night? We will be 4-5 people.

It shouldn't be a problem..but I would recommend that you should arrive around 10 am to be safe. It seems to be a big issue if you will be attending the 1st day of the feast.

I like to arrive at the tents in late afternoon (around an early dinner time) it seems to put me between the people who showed up when the tents opened (either leaving to get some food or being carted out by EMTs by the afternoon) and the people who show up after dinner. I eat a big dinner outside before heading to the tents.
