We are trying to get tickets to the Oktoberfest and are finding we started too late to look. Can anyone tell me about the tents and how best to purchase tickets?
Thanks
Are you a large group? I believe large groups need reservations but couples or small groups don't need them/can't get them.
You show up at a tent and wait to get in, no ticket required (unless something has changed in the last few years). You must be seated to order a beer.
My technique is to eat a large dinner in the late afternoon outside the tent (plenty of food choices around the fest), then head to my favorite tent. There seems to be a lull between the people who showed up first thing (and are now literally being carted off by EMT's) and the later crowd.
The whole thing is cleared out by 10:30 pm. People then go home or head to a nightclub.
I seem to gravitate toward the Lowenbrau tent. The Hofbrauhaus tent is noticably touristy (but people also say Lowenbrau is touristy, so you might prefer another tent).
You have to have a party of 10 or more to get a reservation.
Lowenbrau is a great tent. That one and Hackerphsorr are my favorites.
To get a spot in the tent. Go early (noon). Find the "no reservation" tables and find a spot. Weekdays will be far easier than weekends. The no-reservation tables will be much harder to get seated at as the day goes on. At Lowenbrau - they are the tables in the center right by the band gazibo. They are flagged as no-reservation needed somehow - a plaque or paper on the table or something? At the Hackerpshorr tent - they are in the far back of the tent.
If you do have a part of 10 or more folks - chances are by this time, reservations are sold out. I highly suspect there would not be a reservation left by this time.
But don't let that worry you. If you go on a weekday and early - there are PLENTY of spots to be had.
