Does anyone know if in fact you need to buy an advance ticket to get into one of the large beer tents during this event ? Years ago, we could just walk in - now it looks as if you need to reserve a seat in advance. Suggestions are welcome - thanks !
Really? But it's communal style seats, I would think reservations are only for large groups hogging up entire tables. In 2004, we just walked into any tent (I know, it's been a while since 2004). Please report back what you find out.
Only large groups can reserve a table. In 2010 my husband and I went to Oktoberfest mid-week in the early afternoon and found a table. It was reserved for a group at 5:00 or 6:00 so we had to vacate before then.
The reservation season for Oktoberfest is January-March. You won't get anything this time of year. That being said you should be able find a seat at a table in any number of tents. It just depends on when you want to go. If it's during the week for lunch, you should be able to just walk in, sit down, and have a meal like a restaurant. During the evenings it will get a little more crowded. The weekends can be insane. People show up at 7am and the tents are filled within minutes after they open. The best time at Oktoberfest is in the evening. Go mid-afternoon during the week, have some beers, and by 9pm everyone is standing on the benches singing.
Thanks to all who have responded ! This is very much appreciated. Have a great weekend !!!
