Hello - 3 of us are going to Oktoberfest and I'm looking to finalize our reservations. However, every online request for reservations requires a group of 10 or more. Should I just call/email the particular bar, or reserve as 10 and just have three of us show up? Any advice would be great. Thanks!
I am going this year for the first time, so I don't have any first hand knowledge. I have learned that you can't make a reservation for 3 people. If you go during the day on a weekday it should not be hard to get into a tent. At least I hope so...
I have been there twice and it would be correct that you need 10 people for a reservation. If you don't have 10 people - you should be fine as long as:
1) don't go on a weekend. If you do have to go on a weekend, plan to wait in line. If you can go on a weekday - you should be able to get into a tent and get a great seat with the proper planning.
2) assuming you go on a weekday, go early. Like noon. Get to a tent (Lowenbrau and Hacker Phsorr are the best) and find the "no-reservation" tables. There are a handful in every tent. Plop down and enjoy the rest of the ride. Watch your beer intake or you will be done by 5pm. The "no-reservation" tables are marked. At the Lowenbrau tent - they were right by the band in the center. In the Hacker Pshorr tent, they were in the back.
3) If you have a second night - try the smaller tents - they can be just as much fun.
4) If everything else fails and you must go on a weekend and you must enter an already packed tent - your smile is your best friend. Try not to be shy and make friends with someone who has a table (maybe a round of drinks will do the trick). Once you are seated and chatting up your new friends - you are gold!
Have an excellent time!
