Anyone know what the attendance was this year in Munich? I was told that the corporate tent rates were dropped for the first time in years due to the economic fears???
On average, Oktoberfest attracts about 6 million visitors every year. This year, an estimated 6.9 million attended the "Wiesn". Seems good weather helped boosting the numbers. http://www.br-online.de/oktoberfest/aktuell/oktoberfest-2011-schlussbilanz-ID1317473279383.xml
I think I saw a figure of 6.9 million quoted somewhere. And something like 39 fights were reported, which was down by almost half from the year before. I didn't see how many liters of beer were consumed.
The link in my posting above gives quite a bit of detailed information. Including the numbers for beer consumption: 7.5 million litres beer which was 400,000 litres more than in 2010.
I think Eileen (Texan in CA) and her husband are responsible for the increase. ;-)
The attendance was down a bit, but they broke the beer record of 7.5 million liters. I helped putting them over the top.
Doug, where did you get the information that attendance was "down"? All I found was that this year's estimate (6.9 million) is higher than the number for 2010 (6.4 million). In fact, if you look at a graph provided by wikipedia it shows a record for beer consumption (blue) and a near record for attendance (red) for the past 30+ years. The wikipedia graph is based from date provided by the City of Munich. I checked the City data as well and they do not differ from wikipedia. http://de.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Datei:Oktoberfest_stats_de.svg&filetimestamp=20111008205531 http://www.muenchen.de/Rathaus/raw/Tourismusamt/oktoberfest/oktoberfest_Zahlen_Statistiken.html#1950%20bis%202003
