I am planning on attending Oktoberfest for about 2 days, end of September. Does anyone have any tips or recommendations as to where to stay, is 2 days enough time in Munich, reservations in beer tents or anything to look out for? I'd appreciate any and all suggestions. Thank you.
Yeah, it's pretty bad. We're booked for 169 euros per night... at the AIRPORT.
Stay in Augsburg and take the train in to Munichand back on a "Bayern Ticket" (group daypass.)
I searched the Augsburg city center at the following page and came up with 6 options for a double room for 2 nights beginning 9/28 - price range is 49-152 Euros:
Many people I talked to at Oktoberfest last year follower Russ's advice and slept in Augsburg and took the train to Munich. We were lucky enough to book a few months ago where we stayed last year. Hope you find an accommodation it's worth it.
Prost!
Also consider other cities with good train or bus connections - close ones like Freising, Fürstenfeldbruck, Rosenheim, but also farther ones like Salzburg and Würzburg. The mayhem of Munich traffic during Oktoberfest is unavoidable, though. This is a good time to get out your walking shoes.
