What would be a good place to stay for a weekend (2nites) during Oktoberfest in Sept 2008.

Book NOW!!! It was hard for us to find a place on the cheap. You might have to stay a bit of a distance away. Check for hotels near train stops along the way.

No hotel reservations for Munich during Oktoberfest AND you want a place that's inexpensive?
Good luck. We made our reservations about 6 months ago for this year's celebration...and that was pushing it. Most people at this point stay outside of Munich and go by train into town each day. Plus the hotels raise their rates about 3x for Oktoberfest.
I'm not saying it's impossible...but you may want to get a tent because at this point you're behind the 8 ball.

Try a hostel in an outlying town that has train access; "Bayern ticket" daypasses will get you to and from cheaply:

We stayed at the CVJM YMCA in Munich and thought it was great - especially for the price. Includes a nice German breakfast and free Internet. Check them out.
