OEBB Travel from Salzburg to Venice

I would like to book an online ticket via OEBB: Salzburg-Villach by train and Villach-Venice by OEBB Intercitybus (all included in one ticket). The timetable shows that the final bus stop is Venezia Tronchetto (20 minutes beyond Mestre), but the ticket shows that the final stop is Venezia Mestre. Has anyone made this trip? If the ticket is good only to Mestre, is it necessary to take a separate bus to Tronchetto?

The stop at Tronchetto should be near the vaporetto stop. The #2 vaporetto route loops from here down the Grand Canal and the Giudecca canal. Depending where your hotel is, that might be the simplest way to reach it.

Yes, I was planning to take the #2 vaporetto from Tronchetto. Lee's suggestion to take the train from Mestre will also work. Thanks for helping me confirm my options.

In the first place, I don't think you really want to go to Tronchetto, which is on an island (man-made I believe) for cruise ships that dock at Venice. It's a bit of a walk from Tronchetto to the main islands. However, I suspect that the bus driver would allow you to stay on the bus from Mestre to Tronchetto. I don't know why the ticket would have been printed that way; I don't think there would have been a difference in fares to Mestre or Tronchetto. But, if he makes you get off at Mestre, or if you decide you don't want to walk, or find public transport from Tronchetto to the main islands, take the train (11-12 min) from Mestre across the causeway to St. Lucia station, which is on the Grand Canal, and a pedestrian bridge away from Piazzale Roma.

There is a small charge (€1.25?) for the train from Mestre into Piazzale Roma.

Nothing wrong wrong with Tronchetto. In addition to the number 2 stopping there the 5.1 and 5.2 do too. There's also the pretty cool people mover high up in the air to take you to P. Roma, should you desire. Seems weird that the ticket would end at Mestre, I'm sure the vast bulk of passengers will stay on until Venice. Settle in and enjoy the ride...
