I am travelling with a party of 6 adults to Germany for Octoberfest next year. Would like to stay close to activities, any suggestions for hotels or apts? Any tips for day trips around Munich would also be helpful.

I am going this coming august and will be staying at Pension Lindner, recommend in Rick Steve's Germany book. Dachau concentration camp and Neuschwanstein-Hohenschwangau castles near füssen are both easy day trips that can be done by public transport.
