Miriam
Do you specifically want to take a bus the 250 KM? My wife and I have only been to Europe a few times, but each time we rely on the trains almost exclusively for trips of this length.

Whatever website you're using, look for "Nürnberg Hauptbahnhof" or "Nürnberg Hbf" for short.

German rail runs a non-stop bus from the Nurenberg to Prague every two hours. The bus starts right front of the center entrance to the train station. As you come down the steps from the station, you will see a pole on your right at the curb with a sign that says, Prague and the departure times are listed. First class is on the bottom of the bus and second class on the top of the bus. The bus in Prague dumps in front of the old, really seedy looking, main train station, walk in, down a level and walk into the really nice looking new station. Walk through the station, very clean nice, pay restroom on your right, and continue out the front for taxi or walk to the old town, Could not be easier. Jon, the bus is faster and more convenient than the train connects to Prague.

The actual name of the town, in German, is Nürnberg or Nuernberg if you can't make the ü. The English couldn't seem to say it or spell it, so they use Nuremburg. The Bahn accepts all sorts of misspellings, but if you type "Nuernberg" you'll get the best result. Unfortunately, 'bus' does not have a good connotation, but forget your preconceptions. It's clean and modern, with a bathroom, attendant, and snack bar. However, you must buy the ticket online 3-92 days in advance, and you have to do so early to get the best price, €19 for one person. After that, as the tickets sell out at the lowest price, they go up. The tickets are essentially non-refundable. The trains (4 per day) take about 1½ hr longer, but you can buy tickets any time. No advance purchase necessary. If you get a Bayern-Böhmen-Ticket (an all day regional pass for all of Bavaria and part of the Czech Republic) it's €33, total, for up to five people plus you will have to buy local Czech tickets for Pilsen to Prague for about €6 pP.

Thanks everyone. Looks like I will choose this bus. Looks like the tickets include the seat, so will be easy transactions. Yes, train is longer.

As Frank says bus brings you to the Main Train Station in Prague. Don't go inside and down to the new building. Taxi there are mafia taxi. They would really take you for a ride. Heavily overpriced. Instead stay at the upper level and look for taxi there. There are usually several of them there (you can see them from the bus) and those are OK.

Hi Miriam! Seems like we both just posted about going from Nurnberg to Prague! Thank you Frank for the direction - though I had to go to Google to find "To the West" LOL! I copied your directions - sounds simple enough to follow.
Hope you have a great time in Prague Miriam!

I am sorry Itja but there were no taxi in front of the old station or even a taxi stop. It is a very busy street, very dark, and a bit creepy. We walked to our hotel in old town -- easy walk but it is my understanding that you can walk out the lower level of the stations (towards the old town) cross the little park area or plaza, and get taxis at the hotel.

Frank, that road is not for walking. Walking there is actually illegal. It's something like freeway or semifreeway. Usually there are taxi there waiting for the bus. In the case they are not then you have to walk down and use subway. If you have heavy luggage and want to use taxi, don't use that one at the station. They have stands on both sides of the station and they are mafia. You don't want to use them. Just walk across Sherwood Forest (that's how locals call that little park in front of the station- it's not really that dangerous) and get to the street where you can flag the taxi. Or at the station information get the taxi AAA phone number. They speak English and they are honest. Not very common among Prague cab drivers.

So, do you think that will be beneficiary to buy 2days city card or better just buy tickets when it need it? The city card for 2days is 24euro(current info)

Miriam, buy a ticket for 26 czk. That will be valid for 90 minutes. That should be enough for your ride. Before you get to subway you have to stamp it at the little yellow machine. Then the ticket is valid for 90 min., doesn't matter how often you change transportation means. Now I am not sure if it is 90 min. or 60 min. but both should give you enough time. Or 1 ticket valid 24 hours cost 100 czk. So you can buy 2 of them (I don't think they have 2 days pass), that would be 200 czk, approximately 8 Euro, not 24.

Patty, once you get to the street after Sherwood Forest, turn left and walk 5-10 minutes until you get to Wenceslas Square (Vaclavske namesti). Actually in reality it is not a square but wide boulevard. Walk all length of it and at the lower end of it Old Town starts.

So to get to Old Town without using a taxi - from where the Bahn-Bus drops off - We would need to go into the old station, go down the stairs into the new station, then walk through Sherwood Forest and Old town is on the other side? We are only staying two days and packed VERY light - so carrying heavy touristy luggage is not an issue - Thanks!

We ended up having a car from our hotel pick us up at the Prague station when we arrived from Nuremberg. We weren't sure about the taxis after reading some reviews and we wanted a sure thing. We stayed at Hotel Maximilian in the Old Town and they were wonderful and the car service was very reasonable.

Hello, everyone. Our hotel in new town and the direction was to take the underground line C and then change to the tram. Is line C is train? And do we need to buy 2 different tickets? Please, advise. Thank you

Ya, it is a train/subway car. Need a ticket with transfer. Trying to remember from last month. I think a single ride ticket is in the 80, 90 cents range and a ticket with transfer is $1.25. The exchange rate is about 20 to 1 so that would be 18 and 25 local currency. If I am off someone will correct me.
