Need lodging in Nuremberg. Reasonable. Gasthof type lodgings during Christmas Market time. Thanks.

I know of a place just outside of Nuernberg, in Fuerth. It's more of a Privatzimmer than a Gasthof, but I had my own bath and plenty of hot water. In 2007, I paid €34/night, single occupancy. He only accepts cash. The host is Bosnian but fluent in German. I never heard a word of English from him, if that matters. If not, PM me.

Lee's suggestion of Fürth may be a good idea. I may try Fürth the next time i return, in hopes of finding somewhere less costly. It is only a short distance from Nürnberg, and wouldn't take long to get from one to the other. I visited Nürnberg a couple years ago in early December, to go to the Christmas market. In planning my trip, i recall that it was a challenge to locate reasonably-priced hotel rooms anywhere near the center of the old-town area where the market is held. On the recommendation of a friend, we ended up staying just north of the market area, @ the Hotel Nestor, on Bucher Str. It was pretty pricey for my travel budget, but i feel that it did turn out to be a good choice for us. I had no luck finding a closer hotel or B&B @ a better price. The Nestor was decorated in a starkly modern style, which I did not care for, but it was clean and neat, they had a place to park our car, the food in their restaurant was delicious, and the staff were all very pleasant and helpful. But the best part was the hotel's location .... the city tram stopped right at the corner in front of the hotel. The Christmas market was only a 3-4 minute ride down the hill ( mountainside ? ) .... only 2-3 stops. When we were tired and cold at the end of the evening, we just walked out of the market, hopped the tram, and were delivered only feet from the hotel door without having to climb that hill ! I chose convenience over price for that one night, at least. Hopefully, you are planning your trip early enough that you may find a less costly option with availability. My best advice, no matter where you choose - book early !

I didn't see anything (2007) that even vaguely resembled an outlet mall in Fuerth (I stayed near the Rathaus). It was a very middle-Eastern neighborhood (women with head scarves). Most of the restaurants were Döner stands; I had trouble finding a traditional German restaurant. That evening I walked down to the Bahnhof through what I would describe as a more traditional German neighborhood. One long street was a pedestrian mall, but no outlet stores. The place where I stayed (he calls it a pension) was really a single family apartment house (every name on the mail boxes were the same). It looks like he has converted apartments on one floor to rooms to rent out.
