If you had to pick two of these 3 places, which two would you pick? We are looking for a pretty town and quaint. Thanks!
We will also be visiting Waterloo and Bastogne on the way to Luxembourg city from Ghent.
Namur and Dinant are historical. I would pick them but of the two, Namur is choice #1. Waterloo is best seen if you're motorised. Be prepared tho spend the whole afternoon there, including seeing the town.
For a Walloon city (French-speaking half of Belgium), Namur is more attractive than most, but still a little run-down. Durbuy is very attractive but tiny. The only reason I can think of to stay here is if you were planning a canoe or kayak expedition. Dinant also is very attractive, but there isn't much to see or do here. The citadel looks impressive, but the inside is about as interesting as an empty warehouse. Like so many other things, I guess the answer is a big "it depends". If your intent is to explore the Ardennes and do some outdoor activities, maybe Durbuy. If you're just passing through and need a place to stay, perhaps Namur... or just stay somewhere in the Flemish region, where the cities are usually cleaner and better maintained.
