Noteworthy diversions between Mt-St-Michel and Bayeux?

We will be renting a car. Any recommendations?

Scott, the "Normandy must sees" are primarily D Day related and best seen from Bayeux. Having driven from Mont St. Michel to Bayeux, I don't recall much worth stopping for. I would suggest driving straight to Bayeux and planning your D Day excursion from there. You might want to spend the first day of arrival exploring Bayeux itself and head for the beaches the following morning.

David So far I've planned exactly that: spending time in Bayeux the day we arrive there, and then a D-Day tour the day after. Bayeux sounds so great, perhaps we should get straight there from Mt-St-Michel. We'll be in Bayeux two nights before heading to Paris on the train.

You might consider driving around the bay from MSM to Cancale, about 20 miles, for a splendid seafood lunch on the quay with MSM visible across the bay. Cancale oysters are famous but all the restaurants offer delicious entrees. Worth a short trip since you are already close. Cancale is actually in Brittany BTW. You could also drift along the coastline road before you head back to Bayeux. Lots of little roadside places to buy fresh cheeses or Calvados and other locally grown delights.
