not Bordeaux but omewhere close

We would like to go to a few vineyards but are traveling with kids. Is there a town around Bordeaux that might be a nice family place...where we can also sip a bit of wine? We are traveling by train/bus. Thanks!

St-Emilion's probably the neatest, but I think the train station is a couple of km from the center of the town. Take a look at Pauillac.

St Emilion is charming with interesting buildings and squares. And some vineyards in walking distance of the centre of town. Bordeaux is a big commercial City (with great wine). Not sure Paulillac is convenient to get to without a car. Also consider some of the other areas which arent as well known such as Luberon

'Not sure Paulillac is convenient to get to without a car' The train station at Pauillac is on the northwest edge of town about a ten-minute walk from center ville. The Bordeaux station is not St Jean (TGV etc) but the other one just south of the lake (Ravezies ?). That same rail line continues along the westerly bank of the Gironde through the Medoc region. There are a couple of other towns along the line that are probably wine-related, but I haven't been particularly impressed by them (and am not a wine drinker).
