Northern Germany

I am trying to decide to go to Copenhagen for 3 nights from Hamburg or go to Lubeck. It looks like Copenhagen is 20% more expensive than Germany. I have 2 itineraries 1. Berlin 3 nights, Hamburg 2 nights, Copenhagen 3 nights, all by train and then fly back to Frankfurt to fly home. My other thought is to spend another day in Berlin(4 nights) then Hamburg 2 nights,Lubeck 1 night and go back to Farnkfurt early to spen more time with relatives. Any suggestions to help my make up my mind? We will be traveling by train except the trip back from Copenhagen.

I really loved Copenhagen, but it isn't as easy to get to and from Germany as it would seem. When we were in Copenhagen we wanted to make a quick trip to visit a cousin in Hamburg - it turned out to be cost prohibitive for a short visit so we had to drop the idea. If you go, three nights is a good idea. We spent twice that and still felt we had left a lot unseen.

Haven't been to Copenhagen, but we loved Lubeck.

Hi, The second plan is more appealing. I'd pick that one...spend the extra night in Berlin. For a general overview of Hamburg, two full days there after getting there from Berlin is sufficient. From Hamburg to Lübeck is ca. one hour, which gives you a full day to see the center (Innenstadt), walking up from the train station.

I am amazed at the quick reply. Thank-you everyone. I have decided to do the second itinerary so we can spend more time in Berlin and also do a day trip to Postdam which looks very interesting. I would love to see Lubeck, as well. Everyone's input has been very helpful

Just also seconding your decision. There's so much to see in Berlin that 4 days are definitely better. It's also good to then see a smaller town in Germany too.
