Normandy Trip Advice

So I am considering the 2 day tour with the Caen-Normandy Memorial Museum: (http://www.memorial-caen.fr/portailgb/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=809&Itemid=1032 at the bottom). Has anyone had any experience with this? I will be traveling in the fall. I intend to take the two day tour starting on Sunday Sept 4 and continuing Monday Sept 5. As trains do not get to Caen from Paris until late morning, I intend to take a train late on the night of Saturday Sept 3. Does anyone know any really cheap accommodations in Caen? The 2 day tour option includes the option of an "Extra night" but I'm not sure if that is before or after the tour. (I have emailed to ask). Does anyone know what 1 star hotel they use? Basically any information I can get would be good, I want to make sure this is a worthwhile way to spend 250 dollars. Thanks!

Chris, I can't offer any information on that particular tour, as I've never taken it. Is the "Charming Stay" tour at the bottom the one you're considering? That tour appears to use Hotels in Bayeux rather than Caen. I used tours based in Bayeux on my last visit, and that's another option you could consider. Have a look at the websites at www.ddayhistorian.com or www.daleboothnormandytours.com to see if these might appeal to you. There are good Hotel choices listed in the Guidebook, or you could check Trip Advisor. There is at least one Hostel there, if you'd prefer that. Have a look at www.hihostels.com/dba/hostels-Bayeux-020066.en.htm#tabs=0 for information. One review that I read stated that the owners didn't speak much English, but if you can manage a bit of French, you should be fine. If you'd prefer a budget Hotel in Bayeux, you might have a look at This Hotel in the centre of town. Unfortunately only the French portion of their website seems to be working at the moment (the website seems to be fairly new, as it wasn't available when I last stayed there). The owners are really nice, and Daniel does speak English (in addition to French and Italian). Happy travels!
