Bruce, Could you clarify - do you mean "go to Normandy OR do a day trip from Brugge or from Paris"? Also, what are you planning to see in Normandy? Visiting Normandy on a day trip from either of those cities would not be practical IMO. Although it is possible from Paris, it only allows a few hours in Normandy so not really worth the effort. If you're planning to visit D-Day sites, my suggestion would be to spend at least one night in Bayeux, and take a BattleBus Tour. Due to the fact that the invasion sites are spread out along about a 50-mile front, it's difficult to see many of them on a day trip. Using a tour is the best and most efficient method, as they cover a few of the most significant sites and provide all transportation, along with an excellent history lesson! Happy travels!
