My daughter and I are visiting Paris in early October 2013 for seven days. We would like to have a day trip to see the Normandy beaches, American cemetery, etc. The best days to visit are in the middle of our stay, and we don't want to give up our Paris hotel in the middle of our trip, so going to Bayeux the night before is probably out. We are uncertain if we should sign up with a tour guide. We'd appreciate any advice, and we're open to all suggestions. Thank you!
It is difficult to do in one day from Paris. The beach area is massive - 50 miles from east end to west end plus the points of interest behind the beaches. If you drove from Paris it would be a quick hit at a few key areas. A tour guide would make it more efficient.
We did it in one day with a tour guide. We took the train from Paris, met our guide at the station, did a good chunk of the beaches, the American cemetery, had lunch, and even had time to see the Bayeux tapestry at the end of the day before getting on a train back to Paris. Highly recommend!
Thanks, Frank. Do you have a guide you recommend? I appreciate your help!
Andrea, do you have a favorite guide you recommend? Thanks so much for your help.
We used Eva, below, but here is a list I got from a friend who went the year before. Bertrand at [email protected] Eva at [email protected] Christophe at [email protected] Lucie at [email protected]
Vanessa at [email protected]
Thanks so much, Andrea!
www.toursbylocals.com will provide you with several local guides who can meet you at the train station if you desire a quick one day tour from Paris. However, having done a quick tour like this and having no guide we missed a lot of facts and information and didn't really know what we were seeing other than the American Cemetery. Definitely get a guide. Several years later we went back to Paris for a few days and then trained to Bayeux and spent 3 nights there. That's where we hired our private guide from toursbylocals.com and learned so much more than when we were just on our own.
Thanks, Tim. I appreciate your input.
