We are heading from the Normandy area to Brugge by car. It seems that this may be a lot of driving for 1 day. Does anyone have suggestions or perhaps a good place to visit/stay in between these cities? Thanks! Jennifer
Depending on where you are starting from in Normandy and what you consider a lot of driving it may not be so bad. I drove fromk Brugge to Mont St. Michel and it was fine. To get an accurate time you can go to online websites such as mapquest or michelin.
Just drove from Bruges to Bayeux a few days ago in about 4 1/2 hrs (with 1/2 hr of that in French toll booths.) Would rather drive than unpack.
We recently returned from our 3 week trip to France & Belgium. We stayed in Paris for 5 days, took TGV train to Rennes, rented a car, drove to Mt St Michel (overnite) drove to Bayeux (2 nights/highly recommend!) then drove to Rouen and Amiens (1 night each). We turned in the car in Amiens and trained it to Brugge. HOWEVER PLEASE NOTE: We had to take 3 trains (many stops and 2 transfers) as there are NO direct trains from Amiens to Brugge. I'd recommend driving to Brugge...but you do not need a car in the city. You could stop in Rouen (overnight?) to see the Cathedral and Joan of Arc Church if you're interested. It was a really nice stopover for us. We really loved Brugge - spent 3 nights there. We were not as impressed by our additional 3 nights in Ghent - it was ok but would have preferred to have stayed there only 1 or 2 nights and spent more time in our last city, Brussels. We were there only 2 nights and could have used at least 1 more. Enjoy!
