My wife and I want to take a ferry from London and a one-day tour of the Normandy landing beaches. How much will it cost?
Ben,
I can't provide a cost, but more importantly I'm not sure whether trying to do that by Ferry from London in one day is entirely possible?
The most highly recommended tour of the beaches is provided by BattleBus Tours but they require tour members to spend at least one night in Bayeux as the tour departs from there at 08:00 sharp! The tours last about nine hours, so it's a long day! I don't have any details on the requirements of other tour companies in that area?
Possibly someone else here can provide further information?
Good luck and happy travels!
The landing area is massive. The beaches themselves stretch for 50 miles and that does not include the significant areas behind the beaches. I think it impractical to do Normandy in a day from Paris and probably impossible to do it from London. Ferry crossings are slow -- five hours from Portsmouth to LeHavre. Second, public transportation in the Normandy area is limited. I know I sound very negative but I just don't think you would see much for the time invested.
Judging by your address, did you mean to take an autoferry and drive? If so, that changes some of the calculations, as long as you didn't mean the trip to and back in one day.
How much will you win if you win the bet and complete this? I wouldn't like to try it if I could fly there in a light aircraft! When I lived in London and my (then) girlfriend was in Paris, there was no Channel Tunnel. Unless I flew, I had to use the short ferry crossing from Dover to Calais. On a good day, I could do west London to central Paris in eight hours - driving to Dover and getting the TGV from Calais. Your proposed trip is NOT a good idea.
