We plan to visit Normandy in early November. We'd like to see Mont St. Michelle, Honfleur, Bayeaux to explore the beaches and surrounding towns. We haven't decided how long to stay there or where else to go.
1) Would we need reservations in November?
2) Any recommendations on hiking in the area or fishing? Where would one stay ideally for hiking or fishing?
I'm not so sure you can actually hike the Normandy invasion beaches. When the tide's in, all thats left dry in front of the dunes is a bunch of miserable, ankle-wrenching shingle. When you get to the cliffs, there ain't nothing left. Bear in mind that the tidal range along there is on the order of thirty meters. There are spotty areas to hike a bit inland on the higher ground, but the ones I've taken a look at have to much road walking to suit my taste.
There's pretty good hiking near Saint-Germain-des-Grois in Le Parc du Perche, but the area is a bit hard to get to.
Also, I'd assume you mean beach or fresh water fishing. Most casual folks don't venture into the channel in the winter since, in a strong blow, wave heights of eight meteres plus are not unknown.
I don't have a clue about where to fish.
