Hi,
We spent four nights in Normandy area in September. Two nights in Bayeux, one in Mont St. Michel, and one in Honfluer. Bayeux worked great for seeing the D-Day beaches and is a nice town itself. We stayed at the Churchill hotel and liked it alot. Have fun.

We stayed four nights at the Hotel Churchill and it was a really nice hotel in an ideal location. Any tours that you take will most likely leave from Place du Quebec, just behind Hotel Churchill.

We ate at the restaurant in Le Lion D'Or, and it was excellent. It was on the higher end of the price scale for Bayeux, but well worth it.

evyan, as suggested by the others, Churchill is a nice Hotel in a good location. You could also check Rick's France 2008 book for other suggestions.

Bayeux is a good central location for touring the D-Day beaches and other sites. There's a British Museum there and it's not far to the large Museum in Caen.

Regarding tours I would HIGHLY recommend BattleBus Tours (they depart from the lot next to the Churchill). Their Guides are extremely knowledgeable, and in some cases they've talked to Veterans on both sides about the invasion and battles and have some interesting facts that most Guides wouldn't be aware of. Check www.battlebus.fr for information on their tours and current prices. The tours that I took were a full day (about nine hours), and lunch is not included.

Happy travels!

I highly recommend Hotel D'Argouges, we love this hotel. It is in town, set back from the street and surrounded by beautiful gardens so it is very serene and quiet. The owner, Mme Ropartz, and the whole staff are absolutely wonderful. It is a beautiful hotel, with charming rooms and a wonderful breakfast. We've stayed here 3 times and will be returning again in August '08.

I strongly second the recommendation for Battlebus Tours. We did the one-day American Highlights tour in March and felt that it was very well done, definitely worth the time and money.

I don't think you can wrong with any of your lodging choices for Bayeux. If you are coffee & croissant people and not interested in having breakfast, ask for it to come off the room price.

At Hotel d'Argouges , We had a lovely room in the annex. I requested 2 double beds together and we got it. The room had a mini fridge, spacious closets, shelves, and a large full bathroom.

Restaurant suggestions:
L'Assiette Normande, 3 rue des Chanoines
Le Petit Bistro, 2 rue Bienvenue
Le Pommier, 38/40 rue des Cuisiniers
