Normandy from Paris in three nights/four days

I so love my friends here at Rick Steves as I can always count on honest advise. My husband, me,and my mother (60 years old) will be traveling to Paris next May. We are staying outside of Paris near Disneyland Paris for seven days and will use the train for a couple of days back into the city.

We are planning three nights ahead of the above mentioned trip to tour parts of Normandy. I need advise on an itinerary. From what I have read, Bayeux is the place to stay for D-day sites. I fell in love with all the stops that Rick made on his video, and we want to see as much as we can. We will arrive on a Wednesday morning and rent a car. We will spend one day with Battlebus as it sounds like that's the thing to do. Beyond that, we would like to see some quaint villages, perhaps Mont St. Michel, Honfleur, etc. This will be my mother's very first trip to Europe, so I'm shooting for quaint and charming along the way.

Any and all advise is appreciated. And, we aren't in a hurry to get to our resort (Marriott d'lle de France)on Sunday, so a church service or something to see/do en route on Sunday would be great too.

Thanks--Theresa

Bayeux itself is quaint and charming, every where you walk. Love the architecture there, plus the cathedral. You will really enjoy your time there. The WW2 museum there is excellent so leave some time for it as well as the Bayeux tapestry.

Taking a Battlebus Tour is an excellent idea! You will not regret it. Honfleur is wonderful. Mont St. Michel is also nice. It's not that far from Bayeux, but it will take you further from Paris. You might want to consider going a little further -- into Brittany and spending the night in Dinan. It's a very quaint and charming. I understand St. Malo is also nice, though I haven't been there. We did a loop -- leaving Paris, stopping at Chartres and spending two nights in Dinan. Then we moved on to Bayeux, stopping at Mont St. Michel on the way. We were in Bayeux four nights and did two Battlebus tours and spent one day touring the region on our own. We spent our last night in Honfleur. Even with less time, this route might work for you. However, I think with a shorter time frame, I would spend all three days in Bayeux and see what you can from there. Or spend two nights in Bayeux and the last in Honfleur before going to your resort.
