Hello, I will be in Paris in May. I am looking for information on a day trip to Normandy that is not too expensive. I have read some of the older posts, but didn't know if you have anything more current? Thank you so much! (and we can't do an overnight so it needs to be a day trip).
hi, there shoudlnt be alot of difference from last year and this. also, dont be afraid to state what our budget is for this tour. everyone has a different idea on whats good, bad and budgets. also, do you want to drive, take a bus or train to Normandy or take a bus from Paris? just so you know a train to Bayeux will take about 2 hours so theres 4 hours out of your day already. in my opinion (imo) youre cutting Normandy short. RS France books covers Normandy and tours. There are tours out of paris, but i havent look into these. There area also tours out of Bayeux that are at the train station. you can buy a seat on one of the tour busses. you can google "normany tours" and see what comes up. I chose a private tour due to the other tour was full. happy trails.
I am only in Paris for 6 days so Normandy has to be a day trip. I would rather see it quick then not see it at all. We won't have a car, so will need to get from Paris to Normandy and have someone guide us from there. I found a tour for $170 each. I am looking into other options to see if this is a standard rate or if there are better prices. Thanks!
hi again, try: > Victorytours.com > Battlebus.fr > daleboothnormandytours.com. (i believe he doesnt do 1 day tours anymore) > dday-guide.com (i used him but hes not cheap. he will use his own car tho)
all this is in RS book. you may want to look for tours to Normandy out of Paris too. there is so much to do and see up there including MOnt St Michel in addition to other towns. if it was me i would skip it and put that time to Paris and come back later when you can plan and have more time for Normandy. happy trails.
Thank you!!!!!
hi again. i forgot to add. > roundtrip tickets (R/T) from Paris to Bayeux was 40 USD. and that was booking waaay in advance. > private tour duration: ~8 hours. happy trails.
Jennifer, Visiting Normandy as a day trip from Paris is not an ideal solution due to the travel times involved. There are some one-day Bus tours available from Paris, but they're not cheap. You might check pariscityvision.com for one possibility (their tours appear to START at €175). Either on your own or with a tour from Paris, it's going to be a LONG day! You won't be able to take one of the full day tours with local firms, as they leave first thing in the morning. Therefore you'll be limited to a half-day tour. I'd suggest checking with www.overlordtour.com as I believe they offer half-day tours. One point to clarify from a previous reply - battlebus.fr is no longer operating under that name. You can reach the previous owner (Paul Woodage) at www.ddayhistorian.com (I don't believe he does half day tours). This is the route you'll need to take.... > Take the Metro or RER from the area of your hotel to Gare St. Lazare. > Take the train from there to Bayeux (arrive about 10:00?). > Connect with your tour, as previously arranged. If you have a few minutes before your tour, you could perhaps visit the famous Bayeux Tapestry or the excellent WW-II Museum there. > At the conclusion of the tour, ask if they'll drop you back at the station. > Retrace your route back to your Hotel in Paris. Good luck and happy travels!
I recommend Overlord Tours. We did a full-day tour (65 euro each, I think) with them in October 2012, which seemed like about the right amount of time for myself and my WWII-addicted adult son, but their half-day tours will at least give you a taste of the area. We took the mid-morning train from Paris to Bayeux (you may need to take the very early one), walked around Bayeux, saw the wonderful tapestry, had an incredible lunch and dinner, stayed overnight in a B&B, took the full-day tour the next day and left that day on the 6pm train back to Paris. With only 6 days in Paris, though, I'd suggest NOT skimping your time in Normandy and either seeing more of wonderful Paris or taking a day trip that's closer. Save Normandy for the next trip!
