I am thinking about a trip I would like to do next year, either in the spring (April/May) or the fall (September/October). The trip will probably be 3 or 4 weeks. It may be totally in France, or if time allows we may pop over to the UK for up to a week. We have been to London before. We will spend no more than 3-4 nights in Paris, because we have spent weeks there over previous trips. My husband has not been anywhere in France besides Paris. I spent 10 days in the south of France (Provence & Languedoc Rousillion) last year. This is our background. My husband's 'must see' is Normandy. Ideally we would like to explore the region in addition to the WWII sites. We would also like to go to the Burgundy area. I am considering a gite rental in both places. I found a promising looking one near Coutances, in a village located between Bayeux and Mont St. Michel. I was thinking that we could do day trips from there, even getting to northern Brittany. In Burgundy I found a gite in Nolay, near Beaune. Both of these rentals would require us to stay for one week, from Saturday - Saturday. Is this too long in each location, or would there be enough for us to do to keep busy, but not too busy? Would it be better to go straight from one to another, or should we do other things for a week between them? Possibilities would be the Loire Valley, maybe the Dordogne area. The Alps? I would love to go to Provence, but think it might be a bit far. If we went straight from Normandy to Burgundy, we could hit the Loire for a few days before going to Paris. We will have a car of course. I'm eager to here the thoughts of people who have been in these regions. I also would like to hear thoughts about which season would be better in these locations. I was thinking spring, but maybe fall would be better in Burgundy with harvest festivals happening. Thanks!
