Does anybody know of a place to store luggage in Nördlingen? I want to break a trip from Munich to Nuremberg there, but according to the DB website the station does not have any left luggage facilities.
We visited there by car, so didn't look for luggage storage. The town has a TI, you might contact them: Marktplatz 2 Nördlingen
09081 84-116 (or +49 9081/84 ext. 116)
I don't believe there is anywhere at the station to check your luggage, but I arrived there by train to spend the night (in zum Engel, right outside the Deininger Tor, a short walk from the station), so I didn't need a locker and didn't look for one. I would expect the tourist office would let you stash your luggage there, but it is in the center of town, near the church, so you would have to carry your luggage that far. The TI office has an email address, [email protected] If you are arriving around noon, you might have lunch at zum Engel (left side of the street before you go through Deininger Tor) and ask them if you can leave your luggage there for a few hours. As I remember, the owner, who does the cooking in the restaurant, speaks English enough for you to explain to him what you need.
After stopping in Nördlingen, how to you plan to go on by train to Nürnberg? You can go west through Baden-Württemberg to Aalen, then to Nürnberg via Crailsheim and Ansbach, but that route is longer and you can't use a Bayern-Ticket in Baden-Württemberg. The shortest way is probably to go back to Donauwörth, which you went through on the way from Munich, and then to Nürnberg via Treuchtlingen. If you go through Donauwörth both ways, you might find lockers at the station and use them while you go round trip to Nördlingen. I used one in 2007, but I don't know if they are still there. According to Bahn.de, there is no Gepäckaufbewahrung (place to store luggage) in Donauwörth. The website for Nahverkehr in Bavaria, Bahnland-bayern.de, also indicates that there are not lockers in Donauwörth, so maybe they have been removed.
Thanks for the suggestions. I probably will be travelling via Donauworth both ways, but according to the DB site it doesn't have left luggage either.
