no time to buy and pick up Europass in U.S.

hey guys! I am departing from U.S. to Italy on 20th from New York city and haven't booked my Europass. I just heard from my friend that it might be too late for me to get it. I heard it's possible to get it in Europe and I also wonder if I can book it online and have it ship to my Italy hotel?

HELP! HELP!

Need a better explanation -- Europass ?? Do you mean Eurorail pass. If this correct, you may be better off without it.

Again, if it is a Eurail pass that you are talking about, that question is answered in the FAQ section of the Eurail website (www.eurail.com). It appears that the passes sold in Europe are mostly only the single country varieties.

For travel in Italy, a railpass is often not needed.

You will pay 20% more for a pass if you buy it in Europe--and the one you want may not be sold there. If you are only going to be in Italy, a pass will definitely cost you more than buying point-to point tickets.

I agree. When I have compared cost of a RR pass with buying p2p tickets, the pass nearly always cost me more; so I didn't buy it.

This is a hot topic. We bought a Eurail Pass for our last trip after carefully dissecting all the legs of our trip and we only used it for the legs of the trip where it would save us money. If you use those rules, you'll be fine. Besides that, the others info about where to buy is correct. With all the packing that you're going to be doing, I don't know if you'd have time to do the research to see if the Eurailpass is worth it. Is this a last minute trip or are you just a procrastinater? ;)

hey guys, thank you soooo much for your responses!

for my original issue, I did try to buy the ticket online and hoped to get it shipped to Italy my hotel, but the website I used (http://www.raileurope.com)didn't have the option. (although somewhere I read that a website has the option). Instead I was suggested to call the 1-800-622-8600 to make a "last minute arrangement". Apparently, they can ship it to Europe, but they charge you a lots of money like $75 by this "last minute deal". And since I am still in U.S. for 2 days, they shipped it to me to U.S. on a overnight for $55. the free shipping deal on my $481 ticket didn't apply in this case.

so my problem got solved, but I really can't think any reason they can't give the option to ship to Europe online or just do a print or will call. They are very polite and helpful though, so that's good.

I agree with some of you about whether it is worth the money. My plan is fly from U.S. to Rome first, stay 3 days, then go to Napoli, from there going back to Florence, then Venice, then milano -> Nice-> Provence ->barcelona. So in my case I suppose it should be worth it? I just want the freedom to be able to hop on and off.

thank!

If you take any high-speed trains that require seat reservations, you will NOT be able to hop on and off as you please. And on a multiple-connection route, you'll have to buy a separate reservation for each leg that requires one. (See the PM I just sent you about this.)
