Just got back from Paris and wanted to share that this tapestry will not be on exhibit until December. The ticket seller was gracious enough to let me know before I bought my ticket. I think he said the tapestry is in Tokyo right now. I was bummed but went ahead and enjoyed the museum anyway.
Thanks for letting folks know, how disappointing for you, although I personally enjoy the Cluny Museum anyways. I wonder if they have that posted ton their website,,its always a good idea to look at each museums website to see if they have any special exhibits on while you are there, or in this case if an exhibit will be on tour and be absent!
I know, Pat. It was so close to our apartment so we just decided to go on impulse since it was always in the back of my mind to see the tapestry. Like you said, I enjoyed it anyway. I just bought a big postcard of the Lady and the Unicorn so I can keep it for a souvenir. Lol.
I looked at the museum's website (Cluny Museum). I didn't find anything in English at all. In French there's a detailed explanation of the "Lady and the Unicorn Project." In short, they are renovating the room where the 6 tapestries live, and there's no where else in the museum suitable for showing them, so they've sent them on holiday to Japan (Tokyo and Osaka). They come home at the end of the year, to their new, improved digs. By the way, it's there second trip abroad. They were in NYC at the Met in 1993-4. The Cluny is one of my favorite Paris museums, with or without them.
