Traveling in May.
If you had a choice of 2 nights, which city would be best, Heidelberg or Salzberg? Also any thoughts of 2 or 3 days in Budapest. Thank you Lynda
Salzburg
Yeah...that is what I thought too. Thank you for your input. It helps me make a decision....Lynda
I have not been to Heidelberg, but Salzburg is a delight. There is a thread currently running under the heading "Austria" that discusses the merits of Salzburg.
Salzburg. Heidelberg is very nice but Salzburg at night is so beautiful. Go to www.flickr.com and type Salzburg night in the search feature.
If you're under the age of 30, Heidelberg. Over 30, Salzburg.
Salzburg much better.
I was disappointed in Heidelberg, even for an afternoon. Concluded it must be me, thus creating a need to return. Spent 3 nights in Budapest, interesting city, much destroyed during the last war, enough to do there for 2 or 3 days especially if you go to one of the famous baths. Food was great at the RS recommended restaurants we tried, especially Soul Cafe- loved their food & dined there twice.
Budapest has a magical, dramatic setting--the wide Danube (Duna) flanked by the Castle and Hills of Buda and the flat land and Parliament (Orszaghaz) of Pest. I spent 5 days and could have spent even more. Interesting neighborhoods, places to walk, museums, baths, great transportation. The language is outside the Indo European family, but all of my encounters, except one, spoke good English.
I'm like LaRae. Heidelberg is fine, Salzberg is better.
I spent 2 nights in Budapest, could have easily spent one or two more. Agreeing with everyone else about Salzburg. Heidelberg is interesting as a day trip, maybe for one night, but Salzburg has a lot more to see and is more impressive.
