Nightlife in Paris

I will be in Paris for a week, I am a single female in my 30's travelling alone. I would like to go out at least a few nights while I'm there. Does anyone know of any places that I could go that are either a bit dressier of a place (but not overboard) or a few more casual places, maybe with live music?

Thanks!

Buddha Bar
8 Rue Boissy d' Anglais M. Concorde
Paris, 75008
Lively, trendy - good for dinner or drinks
reservations a must on weekends for dining

Fu Bar
5 Rue St-Sulpice 6th Arroindesment
Paris

This easy-to-miss spot on St-Sulpice is the size of a thimble but dynamite nights come in small packages. Loud, friendly, fun and frolicsome, the bar staff serve industrial-strength cocktails that have brought down many a heavy drinker in the past and are likely to do so in the future. Their specialty is an apple martini with a kick like a mule on nandrolone. A friendly local crowd who speak English add to the jovial bonhomie and everyone seems to know your name. Music is sassy and cool and the décor that includes comfy sofas in a small upstairs space is tasteful yet unpretentious. The style of the place just comes naturally.

Regarding live music -
If you speak a bit of french - pick up a Pariscope at a tabac or presse. This is a weekly publication of all music, film and art in Paris

For the more upscale places, try the 6th arrondissement and on and around the champs elysees. The Buddha Bar is OK, but it is very touristy but crowd is 30s - 40s. French like to go out in big groups so for nightclubs it would be better to start out in a cocktail bar and meet some people who are moving on later and try to go with them. But one club that has a tough entry that could be good for a solo traveller is Sens (rue de ponthieu). L'Etoile could be OK, but both start very late, so you must go around 1AM.

For music a lot of jazz clubs could be nice. The best are Hot Brass (porte de la villette) and New Morning (rue des petites ecuries Paris 10e). Some others can be found in the 6th (Saint Germain) and around Les Halles (less upscale).

I was about to post the same question this lady did. What publications list "happenings" in the evenings ?
I can't read French.
Thanks !
